I belong to two art societies in Cape Town - the South African Society of Artists (SASA) with over 500 members, and the Constantiaberg Art Society (CAS). In both of these, there are various competitions, with some awards voted for by one's art peers (CAS) and others by professional outside judges at the SASA annual exhibitions. Over the last few years, my work has been awarded and recognised as followed:
- 7 prizes awarded for my pastels
- 4 for watercolours
- 9 for oils
- 1 for drawing
The most prestigious prize - and a highlight of my art career - was in 2007 when I was awarded the Fellow of South African Society of Artists (FSASA).
To attain this, I had earned 91 (out of a possible 108) over a three year stretch, which was from nine paintings over that period and each one marked out of 12! I am the youngest artist to have achieved this - and only one of 14 to have been made a Fellow in the last 100 years! FSASA is the cherry on the top!
